A dental filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by either decay, cracks, or fractures. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled. Dr. Sheen will discuss your options while taking into consideration the location, the extent of the decay, and the cost of the material.
The three main materials of fillings are composite, gold, and silver amalgam. Composite fillings are tooth colored and can be closely matched to the existing teeth, providing high esthetics. Gold and silver amalgam fillings are good options for molars because of their strength and ability to withstand chewing forces.
Fillings can be used for:
- Chipped teeth
- Closing space between two teeth
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Decayed teeth
- Worn teeth
